Baby teeth are not just a rough draft: children use them to chew, to speak clearly and to hold space for the permanent teeth. Untreated decay in a baby tooth can hurt, become infected and sometimes affect the developing tooth underneath.

Children's dentistry (paediatric dentistry) is the part of dentistry devoted to children. At the Agdal practice, it starts as soon as the first teeth appear and rests on three ideas:

  • Prevent rather than repair: age-appropriate brushing advice, diet, bedtime habits and regular check-ups.
  • Treat without rushing: we explain, show the instruments and move forward at the child's pace.
  • Monitor growth: the order in which teeth come through, the space available and habits such as thumb sucking.

An early first visit, painless and without any heavy treatment, often lets a child discover the dental chair in good conditions. It also gives parents a chance to ask their questions about brushing or teething.
